Re: Womens Rugby World Cup - USA
On Sep 2, 2010 4:18 PM EDT In: USA National Teams 2014? I think we need to start looking beyond that to 2016. I'm well aware that we're talking 15s here, but I guess my question is - where should we be putting our efforts: 1)Into our 15s team for the World Cup 2)Into our 7s team for the Olympics My personal opinion - The World Cup will not go away, and neither will 15s. Although we may need some work, I think we'll maintain that with relative ease. However, this is rugby's reintroduction into the Olympics with Sevens. I think a big focus needs to shift to these Games as we're making a BIG debut in both men's and women's rugby. Thoughts? ... |

Re: 2 down how many more to go??
On Aug 26, 2010 8:07 PM EDT In: Rugby Super League
I am completely new to this sport, and I have NRG to thank for getting me hooked. Let me start by telling why I got hooked. I found the quick pace of 7’s a great intro to the game. I was also fortunate to meet some very wonderful people at SFGG, the players, coaches, and fans. Then came the kicker, all of these players from around the country played because they loved the sport. They weren’t making any money at it, which leads to my point. Financial support is the key to success. It does not take an MBA to figure out that without a revenue stream it is hard to do very much. But, at the same time, it is impressive to see how successful the game has become. However, I, as a noob to this sport, realize that we won’t be able to compete with other countries that have sponsorship from large companies. Why? They get the advertisement from it. They get recognition for their sponsorship. How many people in the states have flown on Emirates? I know I haven’t. So, asking Emirates for more financial support would be like asking your employer for a raise without putting in more work or generating more money for the business. Emirates is a business. Show them how their support equates to financial gain and they will give more money. We need to increase the number of major sponsors, and we need to show them loyalty as supporters of the sport. That is why they do it. You can say they love the sport, and to some extent, they do, but for them to shell out some major money, they need to see a profit. |

College "Super league"
On Jun 28, 2010 10:00 AM EDT In: College Rugby Was just reading about this over on rugbymag.com http://www.rugbymag.com/news/colleges/college-gen/college-premier-league-lineup-closer-to-being-settled.aspx I think it is a great idea and will definitely be a good thing - I am a little confused about it not conflicting with regular D1 playoffs, so all these teams will be playing in 2 comps? both run by USA Rugby? Maybe its just me early on a Monday morning not getting it ... |

RE: playing format question
On Jun 1, 2010 4:45 PM EDT In: Rugby Guide Forum Absolutely. Plus we have found that the new players are able to absorb the game more quickly by getting them "in the thick of it" and then are able to quickly pick up additional nuance by working with the sideline coach. ... |
